Rituals to balance the throat chakra (vishuddha)

Throat Chakra

It’s time to meet your throat chakra…

The throat chakra, also known as vishuddha, is located in the throat and also the mouth area and ears. It’s at this chakra that we ascend into the higher chakras, away from the physical and the earth energies and into the spiritual realm, the realm of vibrations & frequencies: sound.

Vibrational frequencies and sound affect both our physical and energetic bodies. Sound has the incredible ability to raise your vibration, purify your energy and heal your body. Sound and vibrational healing introduce us to the realm of the unseen and spirit.

Just quickly, a little more on vibrational healing. Sound waves don’t stop at our ears, they have an effect on our entire body. Think about certain sounds such as the screech of nails on a blackboard. Our body may tighten, our heart beat raise, we’ll sense feelings of irritation or feel uncomfortable. And alternatively, think about how certain music can make you melt, relax, release, even give you goosebumps! Sound frequencies impact our mind, body and spirit.

The throat chakra is linked to purification, reaching states of truth, purity and honest expression.

What’s it’s purpose?

When in balance we can speak honestly from the soul. We communicate authentically and listen deeply. This honest expression helps up to progress to higher chakras, connecting us with spirit or the energetic realm, bringing us closer to enlightenment.

Many spiritual teachers have strong and balanced throat chakras. This robust vishuddha energy can also lift others, helping raise the vibration of everyone around them for the collective good. Gotta love the ripple effect!

How will I know if my throat chakra is out of balance?

When in balance, we feel like our words align with our being, our soul, our true calling. We also feel in balance with the Universe. It feels easy and energising to express ourselves and when we can communicate in this way we’re able to help raise the vibrations of others. We speak truthfully and honestly and express disagreements with love. We also identify creative ways to embrace alignment of our beliefs across all areas of our life.

If our throat chakra is over active, we might feel:

  • Super talkative, like too talkative. Verbal diarrhoea kinda talkative. Too many words, too little meaning!

  • We might catch ourselves being overbearing, pushing our beliefs and opinions on others.

  • And as for listening. Huh? Listening, what’s that? We’re too busy talking to listen to others, I mean, really listen to others.

If our throat chakra is under active, we might feel:

  • Like we can’t speak honestly, we may find ourselves agreeing with others as speaking up and speaking our truth just isn’t coming easily.

  • We’re nervous, even sickeningly fearful of public speaking.

  • We feel anxious in social situations. We may overthink the conversation, leaving us feeling too uncomfortable and awkward to contribute.

Hurry up & get to the good stuff! What can I do to balance my throat chakra?

The answer: So many wonderful rituals will open the cool blue depths of the throat chakra!

  • Try our Feel & Flow Flower Elixir True Expression. This fusion of flower essences & reiki has been created to balance throat chakra energy.

  • Sound Healing is by far and above number one on the menu to access and balance the throat chakra. Check out a Sound Healing class. I can personally recommend one from here if you’re in Melbourne, mind blowing! Other options include singing bowls, binaural beats, listening and playing music or singing or chanting.

  • Stretch the neck with Yoga. Is Yoga not the answer to everything?! Focus on yoga poses that stretch and open the neck. Check out these poses here.

  • Roar!! Yep, you read it right. Now, firstly you may literally want to try roaring or yelling, both are incredibly stimulating to the throat chakra. The second option is to try the breathing technique known as Lion’s Breath:

    • BIG, deep inhale through the nose.

    • Open both your eyes and mouth super wide at the same time.

    • Now stick your tongue out and “roar” with your exhale.

  • Reiki is in my top two for balancing the chakras. (You guessed it, flower essences is the other!). Feel & Flow Flower Elixirs are infused with reiki, however, a reiki treatment (either in person or distance) can bring incredible feelings of openness and energetic vibration and flow to the throat chakra.

  • Journaling can be a huge help. If all your words are wrapped up inside and you want to give them a little rev up and encourage them to come out, writing them down can be an amazing way to encourage this flow of honest and authentic communication.

  • Work with crystals. Wear them, carry them, meditate with them. Basically make friends with crystals! Your best mates for communication, connection to authenticity and spirit include:

    • Lapis Lazuli to speak your truth

    • Aquamarine to purify and connect with spirit

    • Blue Lace Agate to gently balance the throat chakra

  • Embrace plant medicine, brew yourself some herbal tea. Try peppermint, spearmint, marshmallow root, chamomile and slippery elm.

  • Mantras can also be a wonderful way to focus on grounding. You might like to try: “I speak honestly.” “My unique voice matters.” “I’m in alignment with my true self.”
